If we are being honest, finding the right balance between training, recovery, and rest has been a struggle for me my entire adult life. After suffering a herniated disk injury a few years ago, I have experimented with all kinds of recovery methods. So, what is cupping? Cupping is a form of traditional medicine that creates a vacuum to suck the tissue underneath partway into a cup. It increases circulation, speeds recovery, relieves pain, and pulls out toxins that linger in your tissues.
Cupping can be done by many different practitioners. It often offered by holistic practitioners, but sometimes you need to request it or ask about it. I have had cupping done by massage therapists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists. I, personally, do not recommend doing cupping by itself. Instead, cupping can be done in partnership with another holistic recovery method for maximum relief.
