There are significant benefits to working out beside the physical. A flow state of mind provides incredible mental health benefits. It is common to happen during a workout and is possibly the reason you feel more mental clarity post-workout.
Flow state is an optimal state of consciousness where we feel and perform our best, aka “in the zone”. It happens when your skill level and the difficulty level of the task are balanced. Like pushing just outside your comfort zone.
Side effects include:
+ complete focus and concentration
+ confidence that your skills align with the task at hand
+ losing track of time
+ research shows people who experience flow state report higher levels of productivity, creativity, and happiness for up to 3 days afterward (Harvard study)
