Pregnancy Belly Bands

Pregnancy can be a wonderful time in a woman’s life, but it can also be challenging. As your body changes to accommodate the new life growing inside, you may find that some of your favorite activities are no longer as enjoyable as they used to be. If you’re a runner, you may be concerned about how pregnancy will affect your running routine. Don’t worry – there are plenty of ways to keep active during pregnancy, and wearing a belly band can help make running feel more comfortable. Keep reading for more information on pregnancy belly bands for runners.

What is a Pregnancy Belly Band?

Belly bands are a strap that wraps around the body and under the growing belly to provide gentle support. Belly bands, or a maternity support belt, are mainly designed to support your lower back and abdomen while growing a human and are especially helpful for belly support. A pregnancy belly band can help stabilize pelvic muscles and help you maintain a healthy balance. As the belly grows, a pregnancy belt may help reduce common pregnancy pains, such as low back pain, pelvic girdle pain, or sciatic pain.

Benefits of Running while Pregnant

Pregnancy running has many benefits for both mother and child. For mothers, pregnancy running can help to improve circulation, increase energy levels, and reduce stress levels. Additionally, running while pregnant can help to prevent pregnancy-related back pain and improve overall fitness during pregnancy. It may also help moms to stay fit for birth. For babies, running while pregnant may help to enhance brain development and reduce the risk of obesity later in life. In addition, pregnancy running can help bond mother and child during pregnancy. Numerous studies have shown that running is safe for both mother and child, making it an excellent choice for pregnant women who want to stay active.

Belly Bands can Improve Round Ligament Pain and Pelvic Pain

For many pregnant women, running provides an excellent way to stay in shape and keep their energy levels up. However, some moms to be may experience round ligament pain when running during pregnancy. Round ligament pain is a sharp, shooting pain that can occur when the ligaments that support the uterus stretch or contract. It is most commonly felt in the lower abdomen or groin area. The good news is that pregnancy bands can be a game changer for supporting the core muscles while running to prevent pain. However, if the pain is severe or persistent, it may be necessary to cut back on running. Any woman experiencing discomfort should speak to her healthcare provider about their physical activity.

Should I Run with a Belly Band?

Pregnancy belly bands are often recommended for active women who want to continue running throughout their pregnancy. There are a few reasons for this:

  1. The belly band supports the growing belly and can help prevent pain in the lower back and pelvis.
  2. The belly band can help stabilize the hips and pelvis, which can become increasingly unstable as the pregnancy progresses.
  3. The belly band can help increase blood flow to the legs and reduce swelling.

For these reasons, many pregnant women find that a belly band makes running during pregnancy more comfortable and enjoyable.

When Should I Start Using a Pregnancy Belly Band?

Most women will start using a belly band in the second and third trimesters. The second trimester is when the growing bump benefits from additional support. Maternity support belts are meant as a temporary aid in reducing abdominal and pelvis discomfort during pregnancy.
